Research: Hawarden Village

Hawarden is a rural welsh village in Flintshire, north eastern Wales. It is situated just southwest of the River Dee and 7 miles  west of the city of Chester, England functioning both as a commuter suburb for Chester and as part of the Deeside industrial region. Pop. (2011) 13,920. In 1852 it became the home of the Prime Minister W E Gladstone through his marriage to Catherine Glynne. Their home, Broadlane Hall became the 'new' Hawarden Castle, and today it remains the private residence of the Gladstone family. Hawarden's most impressive feature is Gladstone's Library, a splendidly imposing 19th century building paid for by public donations to house the personal collection of 32,000 books he donated to the nation.
Psychographically Hawarden is perceived as one of the most affluent villages within the county, with a good social atmosphere and community nature due to its small size. This fits the middle-class audience that is typically most attracted to the lifestyle of local and organic produce perfect for the business model of the Hawarden Estate farm shop and attributes to its success.
