Studio Brief 2 - Design Processes, Research
Publication [1]
I chose to create two books to present my information I would then accompany this with a verbal presentation explaining my concept while the audience then read the data at their leisure. Initially I planned to produce the books on the specialist printer in the digital print resource that binds the book for me during the printing process, however time restrains prevented me from using this equipment. I was also unsure how to lay the document out in preparation for printing and only had a limited time over the christmas break to produce this publication. Below highlight some early sketches as to how I would have to compile the document in order to use the specialist printer.
I then created some basic sketches for a layout, I had a brief idea of how I wanted the document to look however again due to time restrains I did not have much time to research other examples of page layout. I liked the idea of a large outline of a fifty pence piece as this would give a contemporary feel to the design, the title 'A wealth of knowledge' was carefully considered using clever language choice to reinforce the coin reference.
I wanted to use symbols within the design as this would clearly articulate which data was a fact, statistic, opinion etc. I then planned to include a key at the bottom of the page to communicate the information as efficiently as possible. This worked well when transferred into a digital medium, I created the symbols in Illustrator to ensure a high vector quality.
I chose to use the images of Proof coins from the royal mint website for my book as these showed the coins that had not been in circulation so were perfect coins with no scratches or marks, the imager were of a high quality so worked well for my presentation although I did have to remove the grey background in photoshop to make it white as this worked better within my layout.
