OUGD503 Collaborative Practice - Aesthetic Development

OUGD503 - Studio Brief 2/Collaborative Practice

Aesthetic Development

Taking key works from the brief like 'bold' 'individual' 'confident' and 'diverse' Billy started to create a range of initial sketches for the aesthetic of the campaign. He kept me really involved in this which was an initial concern of mine if I didnt like his design direction however we worked on it collaboratively which resulted in a confident bold aesthetic that we were both happy with.

We met up to discuss his initial development, we agreed for screen resolutions especially smartphones the smaller bust style would work better as it would allow the illustrations to be larger on screen whereas the full body would be long and thin loosing a sense of its impact. I suggested a more 3D style aesthetic to bring the illustrations to life as they looked a little flat on the page at present. I sketched out the idea I had in mind (this is why I'm not the illustrator) which Billy agreed to take away and develop.

The result of this development produced an aesthetic we were both alot happier with. These illustrations were alot more dynamic and we felt they represented the adjectives used within the brief well. They were diverse bold and confident with different body sizes and shapes which will appeal to the audience in a quirky engaging fashion. These were laster developed with colour, I particularly liked the pastel tones that further highlighted the bold playful nature of the concept .
