OUGD503 - BACIL Poster Campaign: Concept

OUGD503 - Studio Brief 1/ BACIL Poster Campaign

Concept

I was lucky within my design process to this brief as I pretty much walked straight into a strong concept without the much creative block. Targeting the the key demographic of younger people within the brief I started to think about what core values are important to them. From this I identified the technological influence of the current generation to them their phone is their life, never apart from it always glued to the screen. I then started to question how I could articulate these core values without the concept becoming stereotyped, cheesy or engaging to this audience and come up with the concept of emojis. Emojis are a recent development associated with smartphones are more associated with this a younger audience and has practically become a digital language of its own. This would engage the target audience that brief identifies and will create instant, rememberable and playful imagery that can be used to visually articulate the content of the poster. Other benefits of using these emoji style designs are they transcend language barriers which is great in a multi-lingual city such as leeds and are so simple and refined they can be understood at a glance even in the presence of alcohol so will be suitably legible for both the day and night time economies.

I found this brief pretty late by accident but liked the task and wanted to create an entry however  I only has a week until the submission deadline, this put a tight timescale on the design and development. I was happy with this concept as it will appeal to the target audience and will create a visually negating resolution therefore didn't want to pursue other design concepts due to the short timescale before submission. When talking through the concept with tutors and students they felt it would make an approbate resolution to the brief, tutors particularly liked the concept transcends language barriers and could create a bold easy to understand design.
