OUGD503 - BACIL Poster Campaign: Brief

OUGD503 - Studio Brief 1/ BACIL Poster Campaign

Brief

Brief:
Posters have been circulated throughout the city to inform the public of thefts and other crime related issues. These existing designs do not appeal to the public, particularly the younger generation. We are challenging the designers of Leeds to create a completely new and innovative design to inform the public to ‘watch their stuff.’ It is important that the poster raises awareness of the chance for theft of personal property without creating a negative impact on the venue it is used in. It will be used in the day time economy including cafes and retail and the night time economy such as bars and clubs. The poster must be effective to both target markets and include the BACIL logo. Bag theft is a problem in all cities within the UK with expensive mobile phones being the main reason for the theft, we hope the use of visual aids will deter thieves and inform the public.

Entries must be received by 5pm, Friday 20th November 2015 and must be accompanied by the official BACIL poster entry form attached.

Brief Interpretation:

My initial analysis of the brief established that the resolution needed to be high impact yet be carefully considered with its message so to not create negative connotations, the concept should be about education and awareness as opposed to worrying the public. The second main aspect of the brief is it effectively target the appropriate audience. The client has established their current posters aren't effective in targeting a key demographic of young people aged 17-30, this is an important aspect of the brief to ensure a successful resolution. I will target this younger audience through relatable and engaging  visual content based on inspiration from popular culture and informed through research into other awareness posters. I am looking forward to engaging with the live nature of the brief which will be exciting to work on as the resolution will be displayed in the local area which will give me a chance to look at the distribution and implementation of my resolution if I won.
