OUGD503 - YCN - Research: YCN Research

OUGD503 - Studio Brief 1/Individual Practice

Research: YCN Research

YCN was formed in 2001 with the ethos and objective to aid creatives and organisations to connect with new clients and encourage them to learn new things. They facilitate this by creating a vast network of individual members such as Michael Wolff and Anna Kövecses to high ranking creative agencies such as Sagmeister & Walsh and love. These relationships help to establish a global dialogue with creative disciplines from all over the world.

YCN hosts annual awards for both professionals and students to encourage up and coming talent to emerge within the create field, these awards feature live briefs from industry leading corporations to add a real life context to the work. The YCN network has become a sign of quality and prestige within the design community looking great on student CV's and portfolios to demonstrate their ability to work within the live projects to exceptionally high standards.

Unlike other design charities YCN has a more ethical practice as other bodies can be suggested to exploit students for the prestige of the charity name charging high entrance fees and having to pay for awards whereas YCN is free to enter and has a much more sympathetic ethos towards students and the professional industry that makes the charity more compassionate and engaging with students that ultimately allows them to engage in the real life application of graphic design and make new connections whilst still in an educational environment.
